voice described the relationship between a verb and its subject, voice is either active or passive, active refers to a situation where the subject of a sentence preforms the action/verb. Passive is supposed to be avoided because it is sometimes used to hide action from subject or a reader.

passive sentence- the dog was being washed by the girl

non-passive/active sentence- the girl washed the dog
