If the equation is written correctly, [tex]\frac{-3}{3}[/tex] would become -1.

So the equation turns into: 4x-1=7.

Add 1 to both sides of the equation.

4x-1+1=7+1

4x=8

Divide both sides by 4 for x.

[tex]\frac{4x}{4}[/tex]=[tex]\frac{8}{4}[/tex]

x=2
