The denominator of a fractional exponent represents the degree of root.

For example

[tex]x^{\frac{1}{3}} = \sqrt[3]{x}\\x^{\frac{1}{4}} = \sqrt[4]{x}\\x^{\frac{1}{5}} = \sqrt[5]{x}[/tex]
