[tex]\frac{31}{2}+ \frac{42}{4}[/tex]

Make the denominators the same in order to add them together

[tex]\frac{2}{2} (\frac{31}{2}) +  \frac{42}{4} = \frac{62}{4}+ \frac{42}{4} =\frac{104}{4} = 26[/tex]
