The net electrical charge of an ionic compound is zero. The unequal number of ions in a compound introduces the electric charge. The number of positive and negative ions are equal in an ionic compound, and this equality in number but opposition in charges introduces electrical neutrality in ionic compounds, making the net charge zero.
