For example, the function [tex]y=x^{2}[/tex] does not have a y-intercept of (0, 1). To prove this, let's make x=0, and if the value of 'y' is different from 1, then, the graph does nt have a y-intercept of (0,1):

[tex]y=x^{2}[/tex] ⇒ [tex]y=(0)^{2}[/tex] ⇒ [tex]y=0[/tex]

Therefore, the y-intercept is at (0, 0) not (0, 1).
