The point system is a system for distributing or allocating resources or for ranking or evaluating candidates or claimants on the basis of points allocated or accumulated. In shorter terms its a system of evaluating academic achievement based on points but there are  4 different meaning it depends on the context the word is in but you can see your self I got the info from the free dictionary by Farlex that should help you out!
