Answer:

They were been guided by God. When I say "they", I am talking about specifically to the first ones - Moses and Joshua.

Explanation:

According to the Bible, God was instructing Moses and telling him where to go and what to do. He has been chosen by God to be the leader, and free them to Egypt. The same thing happens to Joshua, the one who assumes the leadership after Moses's death. Both were guided by God to find the Promised Land.
