We know it isn't a right triangle because it doesn't satisfy the Pythagorean Theorem (9² + 16² ≠ 17²). Because the lengths of the sides are all different, it can't be an equilateral (all equal sides) or an isosceles (2 equal sides) either. Therefore, it is a scalene triangle (all 3 sides different).
