Substitute x that's equation 2 into equation 1 and solve for y

That's

2( 2 - 4y ) + 5y = 7

4 - 8y + 5y = 7

- 3y + 4 = 7

- 3y = 7 - 4

- 3y = 3

Divide both sides by - 3

y = - 1

Substitute the value of y into equation 1

That's

x = 2 - 4(-1)

x = 2 + 4

x = 6

Therefore the solutions are

x = 6

y = - 1
