There is a couple ways to do this...with fractions or without fractions...

with :
4 + 1/3x = 5/12x - 6
4 + 6 = 5/12x - 1/3x
10 = 5/12x - 4/12x
10 = 1/12x....multiply both sides by 12
12 * 10 = x
120 = x

OR

without :
4 + 1/3x = 5/12x - 6....multiply by common denominator of 12
48 + 4x = 5x - 72
48 + 72 = 5x - 4x
120 = x
