Well, I think they need opinion from others, but they can do it themselves but it's incredibly difficult. How you act and think is based on your own mindset or how you were raised. It's hard to change your way of thinking when that's how you have supposedly lived your whole life, so certain things would be easier to change about yourself than other things.
