What were the factors that led to the British taxing the colonists?

Answer:

Well, they had just finished fighting the French in the French and Indian War. Since the war had been mostly fought on North America continent, Britain thought that the colonist should help pay the war effort. But, the colonists were like, “ No taxation without representation!”
