John spent an hour mowing his neighbor’s yard. His neighbor’s said that he will receive his pay the next day. John wants to buy his brother a 5$ birthday gift, and wants to take at least 50% of his check. Therefore, John set up the following equation to calculate the least amount that his paycheck would be for 5$ to be 50% of it.
John’s equation: 5/x=50/100.
After Johns calculations, he figures that his check must be a minimum of 10$ for his paycheck (X) for 5$ to be 50% of it.
