[tex]-3(4v+1)-3(2v+3) =\\ -12v-3-6v-9=\\ -18v-12[/tex]

First you have to multiply the numbers out of the paranthesis, with the numbers in it:
[tex]-3(4v+1)-3(2v+3)\\ -3\cdot 4v-3\cdot 1-3\cdot 2v-3\cdot 3 [/tex] 
then solve :
[tex]-12v-3-6v-9\\ -18v-12[/tex]
