How would you explain social change to someone who has no idea about our society?

I would explain it by saying that most groups, other than generally white males, were once underprivileged, and over time gained their rights. For example, racial minorities like African Americans have continued to gain rights over time including the abolition of slavery and the end of official segregation

Explain to them first how society was in the past and the problems still present. You can then explain the social change in society.
