it is true... saturated hydrocarbons (alkanes) undergo substitution reactions in which it reacts with chlorine in the presence of sunlight or ultraviolet light to give halogen substituted products known as alkyl halides.
Here,methane reacts with chlorine in the presence of sunlight to produce CCl4.
