Hillary wins the popular vote by more than a million votes but loses the election.
Trump loses the popular vote by more than a millions votes but wins the election.

One candidate can win all the so-called "non-important" states(worth only a few 'points' in the system), while the other can win all the "important" states(worth a lot of 'points' in the system) with fewer votes.
