The percent given is in terms of volume so the solution contains 40 mL of alcohol per 100 mL of the solution. Multiplying the given amount of solution to the percentage, we will obtain the amount of alcohol.

620 mL solution ( 40 mL alcohol / 100 mL solution ) = 248 mL alcohol
