22 inches and the length is 28 inches

The length would be w + 6

Area = length • width

616 = w(w + 6)
616 = w^2 + 6w
0 = w^2 + 6w – 616
0 = (w + 28)(w – 22)
w = -28, 22

Since width must be positive, the width has to be 22 inches
