The sugar acid produce when D ribose is oxidized is called D RIBITOL. 
D ribitol is a crystalline pentose alcohol that is formed by the oxidation of ribose. D ribitol is found naturally in some plant and in the cell wall of some gram positive bacteria. D ribitol also form part of the chemical structure of riboflavin.
