President Jackson featured a militaristic policy and attitude toward the Native Americans during his presidency. He encourage occupancy of Indian territories, and was instrumental in overseeing the direct slaughter of countless Native Americans. Perhaps least admirably was his insistency on taking over the lands which were occupied by the Native Peoples, often destroying their homesteads and removing them.
