Cocaine belongs to a category of drugs called stimulants. It is a
powerful and addictive stimulant drug. Stimulants increase certain types
of cell signaling and increase physiologic processes in the body. Many
stimulants increase dopamine release, resulting in increased energy and
alertness. Other stimulants include Adderall, Ritalin, and
Methamphetamine.
