The jobs in factories were usually simple but hard due to the amount of work that had to be done. They could be easily replaced which meant that they wouldn't have money for their families. This meant that they had to work for long work hours, for smaller wages, and even if injured. If they decided to fight against it they would easily be replaced by someone who was willing to work in such conditions.
