It is filled with problems for Juliet. The mother is supposed to be wiser and more clever than the daughter. With wit and puns and spunk Juliet pretends one thing but means another. Soon everyone she trusted in childhood turns against her. Those that should be protecting her are doing anything but. If that isn't irony I don't know what is. You've asked a key question.
