Twice the difference of a number and four:  2(x - 4)three times the sum of the number and 2:  3(x + 2)  2(x - 4) = 3(x + 2)2x - 8 = 3x + 6-14 = x to confirm2[(-14) -4] = 2(-18) =-363 [(-14) +2] = 3 (-12) = -36
