Its membership dropped sharply, Started at 60,000 members in 1919,down to 24,000 by 1928.

The American Communist Party claimed around 50,000 to 60,000 members just after its founding in 1919. The member count dropped significantly to around 7,500 during the times just before The Great Depression started in the 1930s, but the count managed to rise once again to 55,000 members by the end of the decade.
